Designing A Movie For Sound

This excellent article about sound in film concludes by touching on many of the same ideas I wrote about in Less is More. Precisely to Thom's point, I completely neglected sound in my write-up. Oops.

Great, great article. You won me over in the book when you talked about sound/music in a film. I've always felt they are at least 60% of what brings a film to life.

Working in broadcast in the UK, HD and 5.1 sound are only now trickling into producer's consciousness'. It is a bit of a rude awakening when they begin to look at the amount of work that goes into producing 5.1 and indeed the amount of sound preparation involved. I hope that it will put an end to people disregarding the importance sound has to the overall film/programme. That said, i had a client last week request we double the quoted sound prep time, adding several grand to the budget. Props. Some folks out there understand.

Thanks for the link Stu, i have passed it on to my sound team and i am sure they will find it very good reading.
