FlipFlop

FlipFlop is a small, free Mac OS X application designed to assist filmmakers with on set monitoring/previewing using a laptop and a firewire connected camera. The features came mostly from reading many peoples requests on various forums such as DVXUser and Redrock Micro.

Wicked cool! I'm all excited about ScopeBox, but FlipFlop is free and available now, which are two of my favorite software features.

Wow. I've been reading you're blog for a while now Stu and I never imaged I would ever have any reason to sneak onto the front page for a few days!

FlipFlop is the first app I have put together - I say put together as there is very little 'real' code involved thanks to the very intuitive Quartz Composer and Xcode.

I'm afraid it does not have nearly the same level of guts as ScopeBox which is really shaping up to be the application to beat in this are on the Mac. For now its a quick and dirty solution. It will always be free though.

I hope to redesign the app so that its a fullscreen display with a floating (iPhoto / Motion) settings palette. The biggest challenge is to squeeze as much performance out of the graphics card as possible as this app relies completely on the GPU.

I am wondering if you have tried out the Andromeda mod of the dvx100- the control program for it, Sculptor HD, includes a lot of the features in these two applications, so I thought I would ask if you have used Sculptor and could compare/contrast the user experience of them both? I realize that one is for monitoring a DV recording and the other for capturing HD, but the basic controls offered to the user seem similar, and I am wondering if there is anything in FlipFlop or Scopebox that is not in Sculptor, or vice-versa.

Loving the blog by the way, I have been reading for a few months now. also a huge fan of the Orphanage, I work in VFX down in LA but am from San Jose, so I have always been aware of the amazing work you guys have been pulling off since the beginning. Keep it up on all fronts!
