I've been having a lot of fun posting shots from my recent New York trip to Instagram. Most were made with my Sony a7S with Sony's 35mm F2.8 lens, which is an amazingly compact, capable street-shooting rig. All are processed with my Prolost Bespoke Vintage Presets.
Here's the rig:
For street shooting, I usually choose manual mode with auto-ISO, because the a7S does not allow you to set a minimum shutter speed in aperture-priority mode. I like at least 1/250 or faster for street shooting, and the a7S can definitely compensate with its crazy high ISO and low noise.
Here's how I rock the factory neck strap as a wrist strap:
Never a bag, never a lens cap. You can see that my eyecup has fallen off somewhere along the way. That articulated screen is the first thing I miss when I pick up my 5D.
Current Status: For shoots that need resolution, or for dynamic subjects that require fast positioning of focus points, I use my Canon 5D Mark III. And of course, all my fun glass is Canon.
For speed, street shooting, low-light, and vacations, I choose the portability of the a7S.
Quite simply, shooting with the little full-frame Sony is fun.
I didn't go to New York to shoot. I went to have fun. This compact setup never got in my way, never took attention away from my experience of a place I love.
Because of this, I'm looking forward to trying out the new a7RII. More on that soon.
