TLDR;
Hi!
C4DLive is happening this week! Already!
Watch my talk at noon PDT on Thursday, April 23! Ask questions!
TGNTR;
If it weren’t for COVID-19, the newly-combined Maxon, Red Giant, and Redshift teams would have been at NAB in Las Vegas this week, sharing news and announcements at the always-busy Maxon booth. Instead, we’re proceeding with the same scheduled presentations as live streams at C4DLive. I’m of course late in mentioning this here — we’ve already had great talks by Maxon CEO David McGavran, Andrew Kramer of Video Copilot, and Daniel “Hashi” Hashimoto, and there are many more to come.
But hey, first, let me just say here that our companies are, like all of us personally, trying to figure out how best to navigate our domains during a global pandemic. On one hand, we recognize the severity of the situation, and that many peoples’ lives and professions are being profoundly affected, perhaps in unrecoverable ways. On the other hand, we know that you do not need every single channel of your online life to transform into a 24-hour COVID-19 news network. We know that while some folks are furloughed, some are busier than ever, trying to balance the same professional responsibilities as always, with kids and other family requiring attention at home. We also believe that while this may feel like a great time to learn a new tool, or work on a personal project, the most important thing is that we help each other, take care of ourselves, and survive this — even if that means eating Cheezits and re-watching all of Brooklyn 99 from the pilot on. Hypothetically.
So like I mentioned above, we’re trying to help in whatever small ways we can. We made Red Giant Complete free for students and teachers. We have a great deal on C4D + Red Giant Complete. And I’m a week into a 50% price reduction at the Prolost Store.
But we also know that sometimes you just need a break.
In that spirit, the Red Giant Films crew put out a challenge to our global team to film themselves participating in a virtual Nerf war. Watch for an appearance by yours truly:
I had so much fun putting my shot together that I decided to make it the focus of my C4DLive talk, which is this Thursday, April 23, at noon PDT. You can watch it at c4dlive.com or on Maxon’s YouTube channel.
If you miss any of the talks, don’t worry, they’ll all be recorded and available on-demand. Which is kinda wonderful, because not everyone can fly to Vegas every year just to learn about filmmaking tools. So while it’s a bummer not to see my friends — and make new ones — at the show this year, maybe there’s something to this whole virtual NAB thing that we’ll take with us when this is all blessedly over.
Until then, I wish you health, safety, and just enough sanity.
Update 2020-04-24
As promised, here’s the talk and Q&A, including some sneak peeks at upcoming VFX Suite tools! Thanks so much to everyone who watched live and contributed questions.
